FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STEVE SCULLY JOINS FMC AS SENIOR FELLOW
Washington, DC — The U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC) is pleased to announce that Steve Scully, distinguished political journalist and host of SiriusXM's "The Briefing with Steve Scully," will be joining the organization as a Senior Fellow, effective February 1st.
Scully’s role will primarily focus on connecting bipartisan teams of Former Members of Congress with universities across the country as part of our Congress to Campus program, as well as facilitating healthy and productive conversations between Current Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle. He will also work to highlight former Members’ experience and insight when it comes to public service, overcoming hyper-partisanship, and connecting those being represented with those doing the representing.
“It is an honor to join FMC as a Senior Fellow,” said Scully. “I have worked with FMC for many years as an external partner and have always admired their commitment to promoting bipartisanship and strengthening the institution of Congress. I’m excited to officially join their mission and look forward to sharing the voices of Current and Former Members with students and audiences across the country.”
FMC CEO Pete Weichlein expressed his enthusiasm about Scully's new position, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Steve to our team. His extensive experience in politics and journalism and his commitment to pragmatic public discourse will be invaluable to our efforts to showcase bipartisanship in Congress and the impacts of meaningful dialogue.”
The Hon. Barbara Comstock (R-VA, 2015-2019), FMC President, echoed this sentiment, saying, "Steve's insights and expertise will greatly enhance our efforts to engage with both Current and Former Members of Congress from both parties. His talent and experience facilitating open conversations between politicians will allow us to showcase healthy debate between Democrats and Republicans to a wider audience and grow our capabilities as an organization."
“We look forward to collaborating with Steve as we work to bridge divides and promote democracy,” said The Hon. Donna Edwards (D-MD), FMC President Elect and former Co-Chair of FMC’s Congress to Campus program. “Congress to Campus is one of our fastest growing and most impactful programs, and I’m confident Steve’s work on this endeavor will expand our reach and impact with students all across the nation.”
Scully brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience to FMC. He is the former Senior Vice President of the Bipartisan Policy Center, and prior to that served as C-SPAN's Senior Executive Producer and Political Editor for three decades. During his time at C-SPAN, he conducted nearly 8,000 interviews, launched a number of signature programs and interviewed every U.S. president from Ford to Trump. He is past president of the White House Correspondents' Association, and in 2019 was inducted to the Pennsylvania Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
FMC is a non-advocacy, nonpartisan group founded in 1970 and chartered by Congress in 1983. It is a voluntary alliance of Former U.S. Senators and Representatives, working to strengthen Congress in the conduct of its Constitutional responsibility through promoting a collaborative approach to policy making; and to deepening the understanding of our democratic system.
