FMC PRESENTS 2024 DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD TO REPRESENTATIVE BICE

Washington, DC — Yesterday, FMC – the Former Members of Congress Association, a nonpartisan alliance of more than 800 Former U.S. Senators and Representatives – presented its 2024 Distinguished Service Award to U.S. Representative Stephanie Bice (R-OK), in recognition of her leadership and dedication to strengthening the U.S. House of Representatives through her leadership as Chair of the Committee on House Administration’s Subcommittee on Modernization. She has held this role since the Subcommittee’s creation in January 2023, through which she has reformed Congressional support agencies, eliminated outdated regulations, and increased Congress’ adoption and use of new digital technologies. Bice was formally recognized for this award on the House Floor in a ceremony that included remarks by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.

“Chairwoman Stephanie Bice’s work on Congressional modernization exemplifies the kind of leadership that strengthens our republic by ensuring that Congress can meet the challenges of the 21st century,” said The Hon. Barbara Comstock (R-VA, 2015-2019), FMC President. “We are honored to recognize her outstanding contributions to the institution of Congress and the American people through the Subcommittee on Modernization and look forward to seeing her work continue in the 119th Congress.”

“Chairwoman Bice’s leadership on the Subcommittee on Modernization is a model of how effective, results-driven reform can happen when lawmakers put partisanship aside and focus on what’s best for the institution and for the Country,” said Pete Weichlein, FMC CEO. “Her efforts to promote transparency, efficiency, and accountability within Congress are crucial to restoring the public’s faith in representative democracy, and I am proud that we can honor her with this award.”

“I am deeply honored to receive the FMC 2024 Distinguished Service Award,” said Bice. “My leadership of the Subcommittee on Modernization has always been about bringing Congress into the 21st century, reducing waste to save taxpayer dollars, and making the institution more efficient for and accountable to the American people. I am grateful to be recognized by FMC and their membership on both sides of the aisle – many of whom were Committee and Subcommittee Chairs themselves – for the reforms and new policies we’ve enacted this Congress.”

Bice has represented Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District since 2021. Prior to being elected to Congress, she served in the Oklahoma State Senate. In addition to chairing the Subcommittee on Modernization, Bice also serves on the House Appropriations and Science, Space, and Technology Committees. Known for her pragmatic, conservative approach, she focuses her legislative efforts on restoring fiscal responsibility, strengthening our national defense, and growing Oklahoma’s key industries.

FMC’s Distinguished Service Award has been presented on a near annual basis since 1974 to individuals or groups who have made extraordinary contributions to public service, the United States Congress, or the promotion of representative democracy. Previous recipients include President Gerald Ford, Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-KS), House Speakers Thomas “Tom” Foley (D-WA) and Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill (D-MA), Secretary Ray LaHood (R-IL), Senator Sam Nunn (D-GA), Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D-AZ), and last year’s recipient, the brave people of Ukraine.

FMC is a non-advocacy, nonpartisan group founded in 1970 and chartered by Congress in 1983. It is a voluntary alliance of Former U.S. Senators and Representatives, working to strengthen Congress in the conduct of its Constitutional responsibility through promoting a collaborative approach to policy making; and to deepening the understanding of our democratic system.
