FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FMC ANNOUNCES BOARD ELECTIONS OF BUCSHON, KILMER

Washington, DC — Today, FMC – the Former Members of Congress Association, a nonpartisan alliance of more than 800 Former U.S. Senators and Representatives – announced that Congressmen Larry Bucshon, M.D. (R-IN) and Derek Kilmer (D-WA) will join the organization’s Board following the end of their terms. Both Members have previously announced they will retire from Congress after their current terms expire on January 3rd, 2025.

“We are more than excited to welcome these two exemplary Members of Congress to FMC’s Board next year,” said FMC President Barbara Comstock (R-VA, 2015-2019). “Both bring an excellent record of leadership, bipartisanship, and accomplishment to FMC. We are proud to add their experience and expertise to our organization’s Board.”

“Congressman Bucshon and Congressman Kilmer have both worked closely with FMC in the past, and I couldn’t be happier to continue to work alongside them as part of FMC’s leadership next year,” said FMC President-Elect Donna Edwards (D-MD, 2008-2017). “These are two Representatives who have a long history of bipartisanship, and while we are always sad to see the House lose such qualified and dedicated Members, we are thrilled to add their insight to our Board. We look forward to seeing them continue their careers of service and civic engagement as part of FMC.”

“FMC could not be more excited to bring Congressmen Bucshon and Kilmer onto our Board,” said FMC CEO Pete Weichlein. “I had the pleasure of working with both Members during their time in Congress, and have always admired their work ethic, leadership, and willingness to reach across the aisle. We are sincerely grateful to add their capabilities and values to FMC’s leadership.”

“It is an honor to join FMC as both a member, and a member of their Board next year,” said Bucshon. “I have worked with FMC for the past four years as House Republican Co-Chair of their Congressional Study Group on Japan, and through this role, I made some of my best memories while in the House and deepened my commitment to maintaining strong American engagement with our allies and others around the world. I am excited to continue advancing their mission of bipartisanship and civic engagement as part of their leadership.”

“I look forward to joining FMC’s Board to continue efforts to make Congress work better for the American people,” said Kilmer. “I have seen firsthand FMC serve as an important partner in efforts to strengthen the institution of Congress and to foster bipartisanship amongst its Members. I am proud to step into this new role in January to continue working as part of FMC on vital modernization issues, including highlighting the need to ensure the continuity of Congress through a Constitutional amendment.”

Congressman Bucshon has been dedicated to helping his community and the state of Indiana long before his time in office. Before entering Congress, Bucshon was a practicing physician and cardiothoracic surgeon, and also served in the United States Navy Reserve for nearly a decade. Bucshon was elected to Congress in 2010, and currently serves as a Senior Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and as Vice Chair of its Health Subcommittee. Previously, he also served on the House Education and the Workforce Committee, the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. While in Congress, he has primarily focused his legislative efforts on healthcare and energy policy. Bucshon has served as FMC’s House Republican Co-Chair of the Congressional Study Group on Japan since 2020, and is well known for his commitment to working across the aisle.

Congressman Kilmer first stepped onto the political scene in 2005, when he was elected to the Washington State House. In 2006, he was elected to Washington’s State Senate, and served there until he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012. He currently sits on the House Appropriations Committee and serves on the Subcommittees on Energy and Water Development, Defense, and Interior and Environment. Kilmer, who worked as an economic development professional prior to his time in Congress, passed significant economic development legislation focused on helping communities that have faced persistent economic distress. In addition, Kilmer chaired the Bipartisan Working Group and is known for his efforts to find bipartisan solutions to strengthen America’s economy. Kilmer also served as Chairman of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress for four years, where he strived to improve Congress’ efficiency and allow it to work better for the American people. He currently serves on the Select Committee’s successor, the Committee of House Administration’s Modernization Subcommittee, as its Ranking Member
