Elections and Representation: Insights From Former Members
Over the last year, FMC has worked in partnership with Unite America to collect over twenty interviews with Former Members of Congress. These conversations focused on areas in which our electoral system and Congress as a whole need improvement, and major themes that came out of the interviews included gerrymandering, money in politics, primary reform, and more. We’ve compiled their answers and insights into a report in order to highlight their shared beliefs, and pulled from these discussions recommendations on how to improve elections and representation in Congress.
We’re also proud to have been able to feature four of the Former Members we interviewed in a live panel discussion at the George Washington University, in partnership with Unite America and GW’s Graduate School of Political Management. Attended by over 100 audience members and moderated by Steve Scully, this conversation showcases that strengthening our democracy crosses party lines. We’re grateful to have had the event aired on C-SPAN, and you can watch the recording by clicking the image below!
