Our 21st Annual Statesmanship Awards Dinner celebrates the courage to collaborate! Via the Statesmanship Award, we are proud to recognize Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO), Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), and Representative Fred Upton (R-MI). Individually and collectively, this bipartisan group of Senators and Representatives overcame countless obstacles to create groundbreaking and impactful legislation: The 21st Century Cures Act. Their work has resulted in substantial support for the National Institute of Health, so that our best and brightest minds are empowered to find cures and improve lives.

The Problem Solvers Award honors a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus, a group of Members of the U.S. House committed to creating bipartisan solutions. Representative Charles W. Dent, who has co-chaired FMC’s Congressional Study Group on Germany since 2010, has in his entire legislative career been known as a Member seeking results rather than grandstanding. He is highly respected by his colleagues from both sides of the aisle, and his pragmatic and sensible leadership will be sorely missed. FMC is honored to bestow on him the first Problem Solvers Award for his exemplary legislative career.
For two decades, the Annual Statesmanship Awards Dinner hosted by the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC) has recognized outstanding individuals and organizations who exemplify courage, commitment, passion for furthering democracy, and who have demonstrated a life-long dedication to service. This award is bipartisan and given each year to Democratic and Republican current or former Members of Congress to recognize their distinguished Congressional service and commitment to improving the lives of others.
Past honorees have included President George H. W. Bush, Senator Susan Collins, Majority Leader Bob Dole, Secretary of State John Kerry, Leader Bob Michel and, most recently, Senator Mark Warner, Representative Anna Eshoo, Representative Lamar Smith, and Representative Bob Goodlatte.
