With the support of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA, The Congressional Study Group on Japan has been able to organize study tours for Members of Congress to Japan following the model of the other Study Groups. This program provides a unique opportunity for American lawmakers, Japanese legislators, and other distinguished guests to discuss the role of their countries in solving global challenges in a frank and candid forum.

Fervently non-partisan and non-advocacy, our successful model promotes an active, substantive discussion among all principals, avoiding lengthy-speeches or formal presentations that hinder the development of lasting working relationships based on mutual respect and understanding. Topics for the 2016 Japan Study Tour will include: international economic and trade policies (TPP, womenomics); foreign policy and security issues (future of US-Japan alliance, maritime issues); energy policy (Fukushima aftermath, renewable energy); and societal change (Japan’s population decline, foreign workers).

Meeting partners traditionally include Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, several cabinet ministers, provincial leaders, and captains of industry and academia.
