“Expanding the Transatlantic Relationship through TTIP and the Aviation Industry”
With special remarks by:
The Congressional Study Groups on Germany and Europe hosted a roundtable discussion featuring Congressman Jim Costa (D-CA); Mr. Bernard Gustin, CEO of Brussels Airlines; His Excellency Jan Matthysen, Ambassador of Belgium; and Mr. Dan Mullaney, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Europe and the Middle East. The dialogue focused on the recent efforts to establish a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the United States and the European Union. The discussion was moderated by the Hon. Bart Gordon (D-TN), Member of the Board of Directors of FMC.
Mr. Gordon welcomed the distinguished guests and members of the Business Advisory Council. He also thanked the German Marshall Fund for their support of our programming and The Congressional Study Groups on Germany and Europe for their collaboration in hosting this event. Mr. Gordon in turn welcomed Rep. Jim Costa who briefly remarked on the tremendous opportunity the TTIP negotiations present for the U.S. and EU to set common standards, and the need to educate Members of Congress about the importance of the proposal trade and investment deal. Mr. Gordon then welcomed Ambassador Matthysen who made a short opening statement on the importance of achieving tariff reduction between the two continents, and provided a brief introduction for Mr. Gustin.
Mr. Gustin began his discussion by stressing the value of the U.S.-EU friendship and the need to reinforce the partnership…
