CSGG | March 24-29: 30th Annual Congress-Bundestag Seminar in Berlin and Munich
Hosted by CSGG Co-Chairs Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA) and Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), the Seminar provides a unique opportunity for German and American legislators and other distinguished guests to discuss the transatlantic relationship and the role of their countries in solving global challenges in a frank and candid forum. Topics for the 30th Annual Seminar included international economic and trade policies, foreign policy challenges, energy policy, and what to expect given the changing political environments in both countries. In addition to current and former lawmakers from the United States and Germany, participants included representatives from the U.S. Administration, the German government, and the business and academic communities.
Just a couple of the highlights included the presentation of the first ever International Statesmanship Award to Hans-Ulrich Klose (MdB) and a meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel (see photo above). After the meeting with Chancellor Merkel, the Seminar will continue in Munich Tuesday evening. We will be hosting this event in Germany. On the German side along with Chancellor Merkel and MdB Klose, a number of their colleagues in the Bundestag participated, including Günter Krings (CDU/CSU), Omid Nouripour (Alliance 90/Greens), Stefan Liebich (Die Linke), and Rainer Stinner (FDP).
The Study Group would like to thank the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the Atlantik-Brücke, and the organizations making up the CSGG’s Business Advisory Council for their support of the 2013 Study Group programming.
